Hello

Dayanara was born in Panama and migrated to New York at the age of 4. Her mother, a single
mother, just like many other immigrants came to the United States to give her children a better life
and so that her children can have a better chance of becoming successful individuals in this
country. Dayanara was raised in the South Bronx, and as many New Yorkers grew up in
poverty. According to the annual non-profit Robin Hood, a total of 1.4 million New Yorkers,
including one in five children are living in poverty. This shows that the city’s poverty rate is
about twice the national average, impacting mostly Blacks, Latinos, and Asian New Yorkers.
She experienced the struggle of being a Latino child who grew up in poverty and became a
single mother. It wasn’t easy, however, she was focused on overcoming each obstacle that
she faced.

 

Betting the statistics, Dayanara was able to overcome these obstacles by
becoming a U.S. citizen and going to college despite her situation. Ms. Hernandez has endured
many hardships as many others have trough-out her years including homelessness and grew a
passion for helping others. Without a real support system, she was attending college while
working and being a single mother of 2 children. As many times as she wanted to give up, her
main focus was being able to help others who like her are dealing with financial hardships and
providing a better quality of life for her children. She has an eye for helping others and her
passion has always been to give back to the community. She set an example that no matter the
struggle., the burn out there is always a light at the end of the tunnel!
 

On August 2021 she received her master of Science. Since then she has been an advocate for
others by providing resources and building a network of devoted individuals that also have a
passion for helping the underserved. She has created a platform with the mission of changing the
way the system works by helping others voice their struggles, and providing resources needed to
achieve a better quality of life to build safer communities for our growing youths in an effort to
end the everyday violence that we are constantly faced with in New York City. As a New Yorker
myself, we are building a network of resources and working hard to build a better New York for
our New Yorkers!
